Those smugglers are in it for themselves, diluting their product with poison to double their profits. ![]() Misinformation and greed contaminates the moral fiber of neutral Mandalore, in part caused by desperation as trade routes are stifled and the people must turn to black market smugglers for supplies. There are many ways to poison a community. Padmé, on a diplomatic mission to Mandalore, partners with Duchess Satine to investigate something sinister - Moogan smugglers have been sneaking in supplies, including tainted bottles of tea destined for the Mandalorian schools. “The challenge of hope is to overcome corruption.” We’d be honored if you would join us and share your thoughts on the award-winning series.Ĥ5: “Corruption ” (Season Three, Episode 5) Overall though, this was a dull and frustrating episode, with some clunky dialogue. To celebrate the 10 th anniversary of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the all-new episodes coming thanks to #CloneWarsSaved, we’re undertaking a full chronological rewatch of the five original seasons, The Lost Missions, and the theatrical release. I also liked the odd ship the villains used, which was almost cube-shaped, with small legs that were used to walk the ship in as it landed. Also, visually, I continued to enjoy the fun the animators have with Mandalore, where they have used Boba Fett's chest piece as inspiration for so many different outfits and even architecture, as we see that oval-looking imagery almost everywhere. And yes, it's good to see Padme be able to handle herself again, and that she has a way with a blaster. So why is Satine being an idiot and destroying this evidence? To make things even worse, she tells him, "Burn it down, or I'll consider you a part of this conspiracy, Captain!" Huh? Because he's trying to not destroy a crime scene? That's kind of awful of her, no? There were some nice moments here – the big firefight at the end was well done, with the Mandalorian guards getting to show off their skills (loved the guy spinning his staff) and the cool way they pushed a piece of equipment forward as a shield, as they fought their way into the Smugglers' warehouse. What was the deal with her burning down the warehouse at the end? As the Mandalorian police captain pointed out, there was evidence inside – and Satine was expressing to Padme her wish to find out who else was involved in this corruption (you could have played a drinking game with how much that word was used in these 22 minutes). She was so extreme in her beliefs about non-violence last time, which was a core issue between her and Obi-Wan, but that didn't resonate here at all. The idea that Mandalore is suffering as a result of staying neutral during the Clone Wars is a good one, but Satine kept saying things that didn't ring true with her pacifist persona – at one point making a not-so-veiled threat to have her guards rough up a suspect if he didn't talk. I was initially happy to see Satine again, having come to enjoy the character in Season 2 (particularly in the excellent "Voyage of Temptation,") but in this episode she came off as unlikable and horribly inconsistent with what we saw previously and with the values she claims to embody. ![]() But this episode was about some guys poisoning a popular tea drink, in an effort to cut costs and make money! It played very goofy and silly and lacked any of the impact a story about a bunch of dying kids could and should have. I'm all for exploring different aspects of the Star Wars universe, and having stories focused more on intrigue than action from time to time. ![]() ![]() I'm very excited by a lot of things coming later this season (including the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Savage Oppress and the Republic Commandos), but the first part of Season 3 has been notably off for this show, which has proven it can be so much better and more compelling than these last three episodes. I have to say, this was one of the weakest episodes of The Clone Wars, hurt even more by its placement as the third in a group of talky, slow episodes. |
